Bear Review is an online journal of poetry. We only accept unpublished work and we acquire first rights. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please let us know if the work is accepted elsewhere. Please do not submit book reviews here.
We accept submissions on a rolling basis through our submissions manager.
- Attach submissions as a single .doc or .docx document. (No PDFs)
- Include a brief note and/or bio (200 words maximum) with your submission.
- Please send no more than five poems per submission.
- If you have had your work published with us recently, please wait a full calendar year after publication to send us another packet of poems.
- We aim to respond in four months, and often much faster. Sometimes things take longer; please refrain from querying until six months have passed.

We can email a free-submission link to any poets writing while currently or previously incarcerated. We can also send a free-submission link to poets who write while working only or mostly to make ends meet. To request a free-submission link, please email your query to bearreview dot lit@gmail.com. Good-faith requests only, please, as these links are limited per our Submittable subscription plan.

We are interested in traditional and non-traditional reviews of new collections of Poetry published within the past year. Reviews must be 500+ words. Please note we are not currently able to be a paying market. All accepted reviews will be worked over once with an editor, and publicized widely on the Bear Review website and social media. We look forward to reading your words!

To withdraw an accepted piece, send us a message on Submittable with the subject line "Poem Withdrawal"
- Attach submissions of poetry in a single document -- either .doc, .docx, or pdf.
- Include a brief cover letter and bio in the "Cover Letter" box.
- Please send up to five poems (each on a separate page).
- We will do our best to respond in a timely manner (usually within two to four months, though when submissions volumes are high, as many as six).
- If you have recently published with us, please wait a full calendar year after the issue containing your work was published before submitting more work.
